Mud Pies originally launched back in 2009. It grew out of not only a love of wildlife and long experience of helping children learn more about the natural world, but as a direct result of its creator Mandy Tulloch welcoming two little wonders of nature into the world herself.

She said:
It was only after having had children myself that I really appreciated how much they learn at an early stage, and how fantastic it is to be a part of that. After speaking to lots of parents, I realised there were no activities out there for younger children that encouraged them to get outdoors, get active and explore nature so I decided to strike out on my own and create Mud Pies.

Since then Mandy, a Zoology graduate and now qualified primary teacher, has worked with thousands of families, many schools and several partner organisations including BBC Scotland, Nature Scot, TechFest and the University of Aberdeen. She is also a trainer for the educational charity Learning Through Landscapes.

She said:
At an education conference I attended once, the guest speaker asked the audience what they remembered most about playing outdoors and the whole room shouted back ‘making mud pies’. Research is now finding that time in green spaces is really good for children – from encouraging physical activity and supporting health and wellbeing to growing the connections they have with nature. If we want future generations to look after our planet they have to have a positive attitude towards it and that starts with having fun in it. Maybe making mud pies is more than just child’s play.

I look forward to welcoming you soon!
